Late October Morning

Morning has broken–
its edges shattered by the wind;
Dawnlight leaks through
the torn hem of overcast;
Tree boughs new-relieved of color
flutter and bounce and dance
to the strains of winter music
of the coming of colder days
and slight rain considers
riding down the wind
as snow.
